Inspired by the haunting beauty and allusive power of her lyrics the work transforms a fragment from the song Elegie by Patti Smith into an instance of light. Melancholy over lost friends pervades the song and personal memory turns into embodied experience. The images created by the poetry convey a visceral form of remembrance pregnant with physical sensations. “And my skin emits a ray, but I think it's sad….” expresses both pleasure and sadness and evokes a sense of deep inner feeling.

The neon work takes the metaphor of light as a source of illumination. The hand written text emphasises memory as personal and subjective. The individual words are arranged in the form of a concrete poem and together they create an image of light.
